Fall Playlist 2016
“Music is amazing. There’s some metaphysical comfort where it allows you to be isolated and alone while telling you that you are not alone.” — Wayne Coyne
Music evokes a mind memory of refreshing sounds tied to events…Music is truly the universal emotive language. Being a human and someone with a heart and soul, I LOVE music. I listen to music at least 12 hours a day. How do you relate to music? Within you, does music evoke emotion?… Yes? That is fantastic, I’ve heard that music also makes Stevie Wonder! You are welcome! Moving forward…
As my day begins, I’m wake to the music I turned on when I went to sleep the night before. While I’m getting ready for work, I go to my TV and turn on the Pandora app with my favorite artists playing on shuffle. Right before I leave the house I turn on iHeart Radio for Thelma – my dog. Thelma likes all music…with the exception of CAT POWER! <Insert laughter because that was hilarious!> During my commute I’m listening to a local St. Louis radio station and switch to Spotify when I get out of my car and walk into my office. At work I listen to NPR’s All Songs 24/7 station. You get the idea…there is always music playing as the backing soundtrack to my life.
NERD ALERT!
In 2005, I started tracking all the songs I liked via a spreadsheet.😆 In true glameleon fashion, the list that came together was consistent but also eclectic. Years later, I realized that it made more sense to create quarterly playlists in Spotify. These curations are reflective of what I enjoy during a particular time in history and are not necessarily reflective of what is current in popular culture.
The Flaming Lips Connection
The first time I saw The Flaming Lips was in 2009 during Pitchfork Music Festival when I lived in Chicago, IL. The show was hypnotic, fun and left me longing for more. Fast forward to 2012, while the band was headlining Loufest in 2012. I was attending Loufest and was walking by as the band was exiting the Spotify trailer. Oddly, no other concert goers were within the vicinity at the time. Quickly, I recognizing that The Flaming Lips were standing no more than 5 feet from me! I made eye contact with Wayne Coyne and told him I love what they are doing, then proceeded to ask for a quick photo with the band. He said something to the effect of, “Thanks! Sorry, if we take a photo with you, we will have to take a photo with everyone.” while gesturing to the nonexistent crowd surrounding the band. I smiled, nodded politely and said I understood even though I was totally bummed out.
Fall 2016 Connection
During the Fall of 2016 I visited Oklahoma City, OK (OKC) for work. I not only got to spend time with great friends who live in the city, but also got to experience quirkier side of the city. OKC has a lot to offer, including The Womb which is an arts center created by Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips. This playlist has no Flaming Lips but will always remind me of my trip to OKC and Loufest.
I now present the Glameleon Fall 2016 Playlist
